Discount Insurance for RFS members

We are pleased to advise that Seafish, in association with David Oliver Associates (DOA) can now offer significant insurance discounts to member vessels which will potentially make the cost of joining the RFS absolutely free.

Subject to claims history RFS members will qualify for a 7.5% annual discount on existing (like for like) hull and machinery insurance premiums with a further 2.5% discount when both hull and machinery and personal and indemnity insurances are lodged with DOA.  For further information please contact DOA. If you are interested in obtaining a quotation DOA will give the member options of using their existing broker or using A One Insurance Group. The contact details are 0844 225 9757 or e-mail phillip@doainsurance.co.uk. DOA are happy to facilitate quotations directly if clients prefer not to go via a preferred broker or A One Insurance, so are very flexible to ensure they accommodate members needs.

Discount for obtaining the Seafish under 16.5m skippers ticket

More great news Seafish have got together with the Shipowners Mutual Protection Society, who are able to offer further financial support to new applicant vessels where the skipper holds the Seafish under 16.5m skippers ticket. This support (£75 per skipper per new vessel) is in addition to any other support or discounts available, so again offers vessels an excellent opportunity to join the RFS at minimal cost.

If you have completed all the relevant courses towards the under 16.5m skippers certificate but  have not yet applied for it, contact Sharon Burke on 01472 252302 or s_burke@seafish.co.uk who will send you an application form.

RFS Export Leaflets

Following discussions and feedback with industry Seafish have developed a series of RFS promotional leaflets for use in continental Europe and further afield which have been printed in French, Spanish and Italian as well as the English version. Mindful of the many species exported from the UK it is hoped that the series of leaflets will raise awareness of the RFS with global customers and the high standards required of the vessels in the scheme.  Should you wish to receive copies of the leaflets, please contact Jim Hyam on the following number 07876035749 or via email on j_hyam@seafish.co.uk

Promotional Material

We have a leaflet that explains what the Responsible Fishing Scheme stands for and also highlights the benefits of the scheme to processors, retailers and foodservice outlets. We have printed copies in the office if you wish to order some please call Jim Hyam on 07876035749 or click here* to download. *(Note these are currently out of date and are in the process of being updated)

Promotional Fish Tallies

When Vessels are newly certified Seafish will send out  to you 2000 free tallies which show the RFS logo and your vessel name. These tallies are to be used as a means to promote that your fish has been caught in a responsible way and by a vessel that is part of the Responsible Fishing Scheme.

The good news is if you wish to promote your catch beyond the lifetime of these free tallies then you are now able to do so as we have arranged with the tallie supplier for you to contact them directly, should you wish to order more.

If you do wish to order any additional Tallies to promote your catch then you can get in touch with them by clicking on the following link www.screensprinting.co.uk/

Crab and Lobster Tags (New idea on Trial)

We are currently looking to trial a new system that involves RFS shellfishing vessels to identifying their catch by using a tie on tag. Any member who wishes to try these out will be given 200 tags FOC. The ties are individually numbered and contain the RFS website so that anyone who purchases the product can look up which vessel caught it.

The system is quite straight forward as we have included a new section on the website called who caught my shellfish? If you look in this section you we see we have drawn up a simple table that lists the numbers issued to each vessel, thus when a restaurant receives a product tagged with a particular number they can find out which veesel had caught it and can make this information available to the customers.  If you wish to try out a batch of these tags please contact Jim Hyam on 07876035749
