Recent coverage
UK supermarket giant Tesco will only source from vessels on the Responsible Fishing Scheme for three locally-caught seafood products in south western stores, the company announced. Stores in the south west of England will only stock fish caught under the RFS scheme in a new trial, covering sardines, sprats and scallops in fresh fish counters. The RFS received positive feedback in an article published in The Western Morning News on 09 February 2009 - "The RFS has now become a benchmark against which more than 500 boats, mine included, have measured themselves, either having achieved its status or currently on course to."

The family owners of the Newlyn-based trawler Crystal Sea SS118 have launched their own website to inform trade buyers with as much information as possible before the vessel lands. The website will enable buyers anywhere in the UK or even Europe to follow the fishing of the boat and then bid on their fish over the Internet when it is sold on Plymouth market, where their fish is auctioned. Ian Wightman, a member of the Responsible Fishing Scheme, was interviewed in Olive Magazine as a 'food hero' because of the great work he has been doing with sustainable langoustine in Scotland.

Chris and Steve Wightman, longliners from Suffolk, have had some great coverage in the regional and national press over the last few weeks with joining the RFS and starting a blog on the Seafish website. Tom Aikens presented them with their plaque after he joined them on board their boat to find out more about how they catch their fish.
